Semax / Selank

Semax and Selank are synthetic, seven-amino-acid peptides with distinct molecular origins. Researchers have investigated their effects on neuronal signaling, gene expression, and responses to stress.

Semax is an analog of a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), modified with a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence to improve resistance to enzymatic breakdown. Preclinical studies have examined its effects on neurotrophin signaling, including brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and gene expression in experimental models of brain injury.

Selank is a modified analog of tuftsin, a naturally occurring immune-related peptide. Laboratory and animal research has investigated its influence on inflammatory signaling and genes associated with GABA neurotransmission, a system involved in regulating neuronal activity.

Neither peptide is FDA-approved. Available research does not establish reliable benefits for focus, memory, anxiety relief, or cognitive enhancement in general use. Findings involving either peptide individually do not establish the safety or effectiveness of a combined formulation.
