PT-141 (Bremelanotide)

PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a synthetic peptide developed from Melanotan II and studied for its effects on sexual desire and arousal.

Unlike traditional erectile dysfunction medications such as Viagra or Cialis, which increase blood flow, PT-141 activates melanocortin receptors, including MC4R, involved in central nervous system signaling. The exact mechanism responsible for its clinical effects on sexual desire is not fully understood.

Bremelanotide is FDA-approved under the brand name Vyleesi for premenopausal women with acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD)—persistent low sexual desire that causes significant distress and is not explained by another condition, medication, or relationship problem. It has also been studied in men, but is not FDA-approved for male erectile dysfunction or low libido.

Compounded PT-141 is not FDA-approved. Potential adverse effects include nausea, flushing, headache, skin darkening, and temporary increases in blood pressure. Vyleesi is contraindicated in people with uncontrolled hypertension or known cardiovascular disease.
